Domestic Violence Awareness Month October is a month that people acknowledge Brest Cancer Awareness as well as Domestic Violence Awareness. WHAT IS DOMESTIC VIOLENCE? Well According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence or the (NCADV), domestic violence is the willful intimidation, physical assault, battery, sexual assault, and/or other abusive behavior as part of a systematic pattern of power and control perpetrated by one intimate partner against another. It includes physical violence, sexual violence, threats, and emotional abuse. The frequency and severity of domestic violence can vary dramatically. The NCADV reports that DOMESTIC VIOLENCE IN LOUISIANA • 33.4% of Louisiana women1 and 28.4% of Louisiana men2 experience intimate partner physical violence, intimate partner sexual violence and/or intimate partner stalking in their lifetimes. • In 2010, Louisiana ranked 4th in the nation for femicide; 2/3 of these murders were committed using guns.3 ...
